Everything is going to slow down to a simmer

Hello Summer!

Pretty little maids with starched white bonnets, waiting for the sun to appear over the tree tops.

Summer is due today, at precisely 3:34 this afternoon.  As I walked around the yard this morning I heard the titters of anticipation.

Sun worshipers.

Sun worshipers, these just keep popping open as the days get hotter.

Hummer showed up around the garden yesterday. He had disappeared for a month or so. We were worried when he didn’t show up for the grand opening of the pink powderpuff tree earlier this month. He wasn’t about to miss the arrival of his favorite flower, the blue sage.

These have a blue violet color that appeals to Hummer's ultra-violet sensitivity.

This droopy tassel will soon open up into an intense blue that appeals to Hummer’s ultra-violet sensitivity.

He likes those blue flowers, he was here earlier in Spring, lording over a fully blown rosemary bush.

My husband and I decided to celebrate the day by taking our bicycle out for a spin, pick up some groceries before the day wore on. The air was already getting pretty warm at 8:30.  Good for the tomatoes!

I realize when all the tomatoes get ripe at the same time I'm going to be spending a lot of time around the stove.

We didn’t do nearly as well with tomatoes last year.  We ran out of sauce back in March or so.  We bought a BIG can of stewed tomatoes at Cash and Carry and I dumped it into a pot and mashed them up with a potato masher, made some passable chunky sauce. But we could taste the can, it’s just not the same, we been waiting for that first pot of homegrown sauce.

My husband turned our old FREE BENCH toward the morning sun so we could sit and wait with the flowers.

Spring comes on fresh and pretty, all those bright colors, loud storms, wet and splashy. Summer slows everything down to a simmer.
