Purple is in vogue right now.
Any break in the downpour I try to get out in the yard and see what’s blooming.
Whipple gave me these neat creeping flowers. They are a great weed block around rock walls and pathways, and some of the first flowers I get in my yard every year.
When the weather is dreary and onerous it’s nice to have some color in the yard. Everywhere I look I see purple.
These hyacinth push their way up through the gravel along the driveway every year like a miracle of Spring.
Irises pay off well, for the amount of work you put into them. I’ve been spreading them steadily around my yard, and they are blooming like crazy this year.
Now’s the time to transplant stuff, with this nice warm rain, the plants hardly know what happened.
I know this project will pay off well – I set some old plastic pots about six inches in the ground, filled them with some good dirt, and set some little echinacea plants in. This one looks like it’s never been anywhere else.
I’ll try to check back in a year, see how this project turned out. Better get some bark to keep the weeds from moving in.
