Wheel keeps turning

Venus continues to herald the dawn.

Venus continues to herald the dawn.

The mornings are star-tacular these days, with several very bright planets crossing the sky about 6am. At 7am Venus is still quite impressive, the sun reflecting from her round bottom.

I wonder what the Venutians are up to these days. Think they talk about us? What would they say?

Chalking up another day of chores. Yesterday I tried something different – I wrote “make cookies” on my chore list. You know, the chore list doesn’t lie – I had to make those cookies, it was out of my hands once I put it on the chore list.

This is one of my favorite ways to impress my family - pull a frozen log off the shelf and turn it into a dozen cookies.

I try to put something on my chore list everyday that will pay off later. Another thing I been trying to remember is stay in shape. I don’t want to be an old dud, I want to stay active. Dogs are a good way to stay active. Every morning, as soon as they hear my feet hit the floor, the dogs start to whine and sigh for me to come outside. Some mornings I have to deal with the bread first.

The "sponge" has been waiting for me all night. I set out a cup of sourdough starter with some flour and warm water, stir it up, put a lid on it. It has this sour smell that says "Good Morning!"

Add a cup of warm water and yeast, some salt and sugar, and more flour, knead it for about 15 minutes, then put it back in the bowl.

Reminds me of Venus, with the sun shining off her bottom.

The mornings are cool and moist, it’s nice to do yard work again. I use Cal Water’s three day a week schedule to move my sprinklers around on my big trees.  I rake up little piles of leaves, more fall every day. The dogs follow me around the yard, tustling and pulling, occasionally running under my legs.

This rope used to be about six feet long.

The exertion makes me hungry.

Hey, it's kiwi season. I got these at Safeway, they're delicious. But today my husband and I are going to head over to Glenn County, we'll keep an eye out for the farmers who sell them for a couple of bucks a bag along the road.

It’s kiwi season, these are delicious in a smoothie.

While I am piling various ingredients into my blender cup, I roll up my dough into a neat loaf and pop it in a hot oven. Gathering up laundry, making the bed, scrubbing the bathtub – 45 minutes later I have a nice clean house and a new loaf of bread.

Muy gordo!
