I get such a kick out of the Enterprise Record’s annual “Show of Lights.” To me it seems more like a stand – “We’re not giving in to Hard Times!” Good for them.
I’m with Charley Brown. I don’t like a Christmas display that looks like a used car lot. There’s a house a couple of blocks from me that adds another inflatable light-up figure to their display every year, and it’s starting to look like they’re for sale. None of the figures go together, they have nothing in common but the “X-mas” theme. I’ll admit, I do get a kick out of the display at WalMart – last year, they had an inflatable Santa, dressed like a hunter, with a gun, standing next to his RV. This year, Rudolf is sporting a rifle.
For me, Christmas is that time of year when we remember the simpler times. It’s the memories past present and future that interest me. I guess some people get a memory out of going down to the store and buying the annual light-up figure – okay, I can relate to that. Go for it! But please, could you turn it off at 9pm, so I can enjoy the stars?
